Description: 

Vikas Bahl and Rahul Sengupta direct Sunflower, a black comedy ZEE5 original web series. It is produced by Reliance Entertainment and stars actor-comedian Sunil Grover in the lead role as Sonu.The film stars Ranvir Shorey, Girish Kulkarni, Mukul Chadda, Shonali Nagrani, Sonal Jha, and Ashish Vidyarthi.

The first season included eight episodes, premiered on Zee5 on June 11, 2021, and garnered generally excellent reviews from reviewers and viewers for its directing, writing, and performances.

Following the success of the season, ZEE5 announced in May 2023 that the series would return for a second season. Adah Sharma, an actress, joins the cast for this season. The second season premiered March 1, 2024.

The plot revolves around a murder mystery situated in a middle-class housing society in Mumbai called "Sunflower"

Critical reception:

Season 1:

TOI's Archika Khurana describes Sunflower Season 1 as a gripping mystery with dark humor. TOI gives the web series a 3 out of 5. The online series may have been even more successful if it hadn't been executed so casually. Sunil Grover gets full marks for playing the role of Sonu Singh to perfection.

Aashna Varshney of Vakaao writes that the web series is a must-see since Sunil Grover and the main plotline both amaze as the season goes. Many diverse subplots make the web series a little disconcerting, as the focus appears to be shifting away from the primary murder mystery story. However, the primary plot and Sonu Singh's performance are worth watching. She feels it's worth watching and recommends the entertainer.

Divy Tripathi of Film Companion describes this web series as a delightful experience with excellent direction and acting. Ranveer Shorey plays the character of a no-nonsense cop with perfection, and together with Girish Kulkarni, the duo looks ideal as investigative officers.

Season 2:

Critics gave the season a mixed review. The Times of India gave it 3 out of 5 and stated that "Overall, 'Sunflower 2' offers a compelling continuation"News 18 gave it a three-out-of-five rating, praising Sunil Grover and Adah Sharma.

Firstpost was less complimentary of the show, writing, "Sunflower tries to cram entirely too much into one season, mostly to produce a full package.
